Bookmarks
Vimma uses Firefox's own bookmarks, the ones you imported, synced or see in the Library, and gives them keys: one to file a page, one to open a panel where you find it again. Each workspace has its own folder of them.
Bookmark a page
- Press ctrl+b a. A prompt opens at the bottom of the window with the page's title in it.
- It goes in the current workspace's folder: Bookmarks Toolbar →
workwhen you are inwork. To file it in folders there, type them in front of the title, separated by/:docs/My page. Missing folders are made; Tab completes a folder name.@shop/deals/Cartfiles it in another workspace's folder. - Press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel.
A page that is already bookmarked shows where it is; edit the path to move or rename it. Renaming a workspace renames its folder; deleting one asks whether to keep, move or delete its bookmarks.
Find a bookmark
ctrl+b shift+b opens the current workspace's bookmarks as a tree on the left of the window, and follows you when you switch workspace ([bookmarks] root in config.toml shows the whole toolbar, or every bookmark). The quickest way in is /: type a few letters of a title, address or folder.

Details
Everything below is Vimma's own user guide for this topic, in full: every edge case and exception. You do not need it to get started.
Vimma's bookmarks are Firefox's: what you imported, what Sync brings and what the Library shows. Vimma keeps no list of its own; it gives you keys to reach them.
One folder per workspace. Each workspace owns a folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar, named after it: work's bookmarks live in Bookmarks Toolbar → work. The folder is made when you add the workspace's first bookmark, or adopted when a toolbar folder of that name is already there. Vimma remembers it by its id, not only its name: renaming the workspace (:wsrename) renames the folder, and a folder renamed in the Library stays the workspace's. A workspace from config.toml and one made with :wsnew work the same.
Bookmark a page from anywhere: ctrl+b a (or :bookmark). A prompt opens at the foot of the window with the page's title and the cursor before it, in the current workspace's folder. Type folders in front of the title, separated by /: in work, docs/My page files the page in Bookmarks Toolbar → work → docs, and makes the folders that are not there yet. Tab completes a folder name (again: the next match). Enter saves, Esc cancels. A path ending in / files the page in that folder under its title. :bookmark docs/My page saves at once, without the prompt. Start a path with @name/ for another workspace's folder: @shop/deals/Cart; Tab after @ completes workspace names.
If the page is bookmarked already, Vimma says where (already bookmarked: docs/My page, or @shop/deals/Cart in another workspace) and the prompt changes to move/rename: with that path: edit it and press Enter to move or rename the bookmark, or Esc to leave it. A bookmark outside every workspace folder (in the Menu, Other Bookmarks or loose in the toolbar) is named by its path from the Menu, and the prompt offers its title alone: Enter moves it into this workspace. Only http, https, file and about: pages can be bookmarked this way.
The bookmarks panel: ctrl+b shift+b or :bookmarks opens your bookmarks on the left, where the side panel opens; one of the two shows at a time. It works like neo-tree over the current workspace's folder: its bookmarks and subfolders are the top level, with no folder row around them, and the header shows the workspace's name. Switch workspace and the panel follows. An empty folder shows a note saying what the panel shows, that a adds the current page, and how to see the rest.
Bookmarks outside workspace folders (loose in the toolbar, in the Menu or in Other Bookmarks) do not show in a workspace's panel. To see them, set root in config.toml:
schema = 2
[bookmarks]
root = "toolbar" # the whole Bookmarks Toolbar; "all": every bookmark; default "workspace"
With "toolbar" the panel is the toolbar's contents, workspace folders and loose bookmarks alike, and paths count from the toolbar. With "all" it is the Bookmarks Menu's folders and bookmarks, with toolbar and other (and mobile, when you have some) as the first folders, and paths count from the Menu (start one with toolbar/ or other/ for those). A private window, which has no workspaces, shows the toolbar.
Deleting a workspace (:wsdelete, ctrl+b shift+d) asks y/N as before; when the workspace has bookmarks, a second question asks what becomes of them: k (or Enter) keeps its folder in the toolbar, no longer linked to a workspace; m moves them into another workspace's folder (it names which); d deletes them. Esc or any other key closes nothing. Nothing is deleted unless you press d.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
j / k | Move down / up. |
l | Open the folder (again: go into it). On a bookmark: open it in this tab. |
h | Close the folder; inside one, go to its folder and close that. |
Enter | Open the bookmark in this tab and close the panel; on a folder, open or close it. |
t | Open the bookmark in a new tab behind this one; the panel stays open for more. |
s / S | Open it in a new pane right / below (as ctrl+b v / -, at most 4 panes). |
a | Add this page in the highlighted folder, as a path. As in neo-tree, a/b/ makes folders. |
A | Add a folder there. |
r | Rename. |
m | Move to a folder: type its path (Tab completes); @name/… is another workspace's. |
d | Delete, after y/N. A folder says how many items go with it. |
y | Copy the bookmark's address. |
/ | Filter every bookmark by title, address or folder, letters in order. Enter keeps it. |
I | Close the panel and focus the address bar. |
Esc, ctrl+b shift+b | Close the panel. With a filter, Esc clears it first. |
A bookmark opens in your current workspace's container, and in a private window it stays private. javascript: and data: bookmarks (bookmarklets) are listed but do not open from Vimma: it says so instead, since they would run code in the page. Changes made elsewhere (the Library, Sync, another window) show in the panel at once. With root = "all", the four top folders cannot be renamed, moved or deleted. The panel remembers which folders you opened until Vimma quits.
Known limits
Vimma is pre-alpha. What does not work yet, or works with a catch, is listed on the known limits page:
